Meet the team behind Transkribus

Transkribus is changing the way we interact with historical documents, and that's thanks to the dedicated team of around 30 individuals behind it. From developers and designers to communicators, this tight-knit team share their skills and knowledge to continuously improve the platform and make history accessible to everyone.
We spoke with four team members to learn about their unique contributions and what makes Transkribus so much more than just a piece of code.
Helene: Webinar Whiz
If you've ever watched Transkribus tutorial videos on our YouTube channel, then you probably recognise our webinar whiz Helene Prokop. Helene heads up the communications team at Transkribus and is the go-to person for educational resources. She not only manages the Help Center, but also creates how-to videos and and hosts live webinars for both beginner and expert users.
You can find out more about our free webinars on our Events page.
Johannes: Savvy Success Manager
We want every Transkribus project to be a success. In fact, we even have a team dedicated to it: the Customer Success Team, who are experts in helping research and archival teams plan and carry out large-scale projects in the most effective way possible.
Johannes Schwarz was a music historian and an avid Transkribus user before joining Transkribus. He now uses those many years of experience to advise others on the best way to use the platform to achieve their research or digitisation goals.
Support from a dedicated Customer Success Manager are included in all of our Organisation plans.
Michael: Radical Researcher
Part of the Transkribus mission is to "build the best tools", and this is the main focus for Michael Ustaszewski. As Team Lead for Research and Development, Michael is responsible for testing new technologies and seeing how they could enhance the Transkribus platform. From Named Entity Recognition to sophisticated end-to-end pipelines, Michael and his team take these abstract ideas and make them a reality.
You can listen to Michael talking about several upcoming technologies in this keynote speech from TUC24.
Sonia: Helpdesk Hero
In addition to our Help Center and tutorial videos, we also offer a Helpdesk service, where you can receive personalised help with specific problems. Headed by User Success Manager, Sonia Weiss, the Helpdesk team help up to 300 users a month with their burning questions, ensuring everyone gets the support they need to use Transkribus successfully.
The human touch
Ultimately, the heart of Transkribus lies not just in its powerful technology, but in the passion and expertise of the individuals who bring it to life. From Helene's clear and engaging educational content, to Johannes's tailored guidance, Michael's cutting-edge research, and Sonia's dedicated user support, each of these team members plays a crucial role in making historical documents accessible and understandable.
These profiles highlight the human element behind the platform, reminding us that Transkribus's success is a testament to the collaborative spirit and unwavering commitment of a team dedicated to preserving and sharing our collective past.
Thank you to Helene, Johannes, Michael, and Sonia for telling us about their work!
